mod music

Mod music and its inherent culture is a perfect example of independent musicians doing things for themselves. Mod artists can make their own music, and post it to web sites. Fans download music without spending a penny, and the artists don't call it theft, they call it distribution. Without benefit of marketing, publicity or agents, artists gain fans solely based on the quality of their music, rather than any image or promotional devices. And it's a two-way street. Many fans become artists themselves, because it's simply a matter of downloading software and getting a decent collection of samples. Once you learn how to use the software (okay, it's not as simple as it sounds for some), you're on your way.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read the article March of the Mods, by the Ugliness Man, which originally appeared in issue #3 of Dash It! magazine. It is an article intended to introduce and explain mods to those who are unfamiliar.

new! And now you can download some of the Ugliness Man's favorite tunes! Here is the local page, but all the files to download are actually on xoom, so you may want to go to the xoom copy of this page.
