Nerdy Girl

Dime Store Hussy EP

Janken Pon records' first 7" release, this 3-song EP is an impressive opener for the Montreal label. "Scream" follows the mellow-loud-mellow-loud formula that works so well for indie artists. "Perhaps" is, in my opinion, the highlight of this release, with a chord progression that nods to Nirvana, and vocal work that Alanis Morisette wishes she could belt. And "18 Foot Yacht" is an interesting short cut, with lyrics that almost seem to be "Perhaps" pt 2, and a single, repeated guitar/bass riff that almost creates a unique drone effect. The record is packaged with a little booklet that contains the proposed layout for the "Perhaps" video (art by Gavin McInnes), as well as the story behind the concept and why the video never happened.
